Do the homes being built come with whole house audio/home theater wiring? Is that an upgrade option?
For you folks that dont have prewired homes, are you getting such work done?
Trying to get a feel for the custom home theater/whole house audio/home automation industry there. Would hate to move there and not be able to make a living.
The resale home that I bought came with it prewired when it was built plus the surround sound speakers. It was an upgrade for this builder but the builder included it because it was a Parade of Homes years back. It is now actually outdated.
It is usually an upgrade. National builders usually use the same contractors and buy in mass quantities. Some builders will include it if it is a Parade Home or very high end custom home.
Since it is being becoming a very popular thing these days, alot of people are adding them to their existing homes.
Most homes do not have much pre-wiring. When you cross the 400k barrier it gets a little more prevalent. It is considered an upgrade with most builders. If that is what you do for a living, there are plenty of houses lacking pre-wire but I would assume plenty of competition for the jobs. If thats the case, all you have to do is be the best Good Luck!
Raleigh is home to one of the leading high-end home audio/video/automation retailers on the east coast, Audio Advice. You will most certainly get a great feel from the guys there about the market...and IMO I think it's quite healthy.

Yup but it will cost you a small fortune. Their "entry-level" home theater install goes for about $25K. The Mid-level $55K and the top of the line configuration gets close to $100K.
