I live in Richmond, VA and I am planning a long Labor Day weekend trip (Sept 2 - Sept 5) to the Triangle area - Releigh, Durham etc. (my first trip there). Before I book a hotel, just checking what the damage is like there from Irene, any major flooding issues, roads/businesses too much damaged that would make it impossible to navigate around/enjoy the weekend in the area this coming weekend? Would appreciate your thoughts!! Thanks.

The Triangle was realtively unscathed by Irene. I'm not aware of any major damage or lingering issues that should prevent you from enjoying a typical weekend in the area.

Good Luck!

And if you at all into R&B or Ivan Neville, etc. check this out: African American Cultural Festival :: Events Calendar :: Downtown Raleigh

Sadly, I am heading your way this weekend (Deltaville to be precise) so will miss it. African American Dance Ensemble is something of a "local hero" type group here, so worth being there to see.

Also, Friday is First Friday which is always a happening time to be in downtown Raleigh.

Excellent, thanks for the link. Will def. check it out !!!

I just booked the hotel so this trip is definitely happening. I will be making a list of things to see/do in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill area over the next few days using Wikitravel and TripAdvisor websites. If anyone has any recommendation that is off the beaten path or seasonal/local festivals etc. or any other "must see" "local" recommendations please feel free to share here. I am pretty much open to any museum/festival park, restaurant, natural beauties etc. and since I am driving there, I can drive wherever needed as well as walk without any limitations. Thanks again all !! Really excited about the trip!

We're big fans of the NC Museum of Art on Blue Ridge Rd.

NCMA

Great combination of art, some outdoor trails and a nice restaurant too!
