We bought our very first home last year around this time. Due to our modest price point we went into it knowing it wasn't our "forever house" and that with a little hardwork and luck we will be able to upgrade 5-7 years from now. While any equity we do build up in our current home over time would be a plus, I am not counting on it to pave the way to our next house. I bought this house to be a home, not an investment. I hope my income / savings will be much better 5 years from now so we can buy something that could be more suitable for a long term situation.

Just curious how many people here have moved to the Triangle and have bought what they consider their forever house?

I haven't yet but that is our exact plan, NRG. No more moving for us, Lord willing.

Funny-we bought our first house here in Ct in '95, with idea that we'd live there '3 to 5' years and if we were really lucky, make a little $, but planned to save for the next house.

We ended up living there 10 years and made an unexpected bundle! And got unexpectedly priced out of the market here. So, we plan to relocate (just awaiting the job transfers) and buy our forever home in Raleigh. Life sure does throw some unexpected twists and turns doesn't it?

I don't consider my current home my "forever" home - I bought it because it met my needs, and it got me moved into the area. I'll likely be selling next year, about 2.5 years after I bought it.

The way urbywan's talking, we'll all be staying in our current homes forever because we won't be able to sell after the "bubble" bursts.

Good thing we bought our current house with the plans to stay in it for at least the next 10 years or so!

If all goes according to plan, we are in our last home until retirement. We are in a great location convenient to pretty much everywhere in the Triangle we ever go to. We absolutely love our house and, for the most part, our neighborhood. As long as we stay in the area (and I'm a NC native and have been in the Triangle over 20 years now) then we are done.

I'm an NC native and (since birth) and will probably stay in our current home indefinitley. Chances are we'll eventually tear down and rebuild because we enjoy our 1/2 acre lot near downtown Cary, with the large pretty oak trees and we love our neighborhood and neighbors.

Given the problems I'm having with my HOA these days... about another five minutes!

Seriously, we moved here in April of 2005. Also our first affordable starter home that we had no intentions of spending forever in. I had planned to stay about 2-3 years. It looks as if we will be trying to move sometime in early 2008 so we are right on schedule.

NRG,
I moved in 2001 and bought a house to save up for the 'forever' home. We are currently moving to said home at the end of the month! We cannot wait. So mark me down for 6 years 2 months prior to moving...

This is my third house, and my second house with my wife. We came here with the intention of staying for the next 20 years, so we searched for a "forever" house that could easily accommodate a family of 4 with plenty of room for hobbies, etc. I doubt that we will move again until we retire and our children go off to college, but you never know what changes life will throw at you.

We bought our "first house" in 1997 in holly springs, then the plan for our neighborhood changed, and we ended up moving to Cary/Apex in 2001. In that house we thought we would be there for a long time, then we had kids and thought, why exactly did we buy this house? So, in 2005 we moved to wake forest. This house, I believe we are in for the long haul..................
