I was trying to understand which Toastmaster's club to join and have come across an article which mentioned that every club enjoys certain status, indicative of quality and experience of the club leadership (distinguished, select distinguished or Presidential or other).
Few years ago I joined a club, paid my dues but didn't seem to get much out of it.
Is this information of a particular club (quality, experience etc.) available so folks like me who tried with a club but haven't gone far can make a better choice second time.
Have you checked out Toastmasters International web site. You can find a list of all the clubs in your area. It indicates if it is a open membership club or requires specific credentials, etc. My experience is to attend a meeting and meet the members. You will know if the club is right for you. Good luck! You can attend as many TM meetings as you like, without joining. Go to a few different clubs and find the one with the vibe you like. (I was in RTP TM club and they were great, but that was something like 8 years ago!). Once you find one that you like, then pay the dues. It's OK to try different ones out, just eventually join one when you find what you are looking for.
TM served a very important role in my professional and personal development. I think the need has passed (for now), but I highly encourage anyone who is interested to check it out, find the right group, and then join.
Good luck
(Oh, so the way I would pick is based on the following: Convenient location, convenient meeting time, good group of people who encourage you to grow. In no particular order, they are all important.)
