Does anybody have experience obtaining an "odometer statement signed by a licensed vehicle dealer"?
I am dealing with a company who provides car protection service, and this is one of the paper work I need. This is what I have tried:
- Took my car dealership, and was surprised to hear that they have not done that before, and they will not do it!?!?!
- Checked with DMV, and as expected, they don't do that either.
- Found an odometer disclosure statement form on NC DMV, but that is really for buyer/seller contract, and does not really apply to my case.

Please let me know if you have any experience on how to get this statement.
Thank you!

How could a dealer or other party make a signed statement about the odometer reading on a car that's not theirs?

Whats the purpose of the statement? To certify that the number of miles shown on the odometer is correct? Or to show that the odometer is performing accurately (i.e. measuring 1 mile as 1 mile)?

The way I read it, it's like a notary service where they need a 3rd party (dealership) to simply perform an odometer read on my car.

I have no experience but offer this idea for your consideration.

Go to CarMax and have your car appraised as if you intend to sell it or trade it. IIRC they give you a printed statement of their offer which includes the odometer reading.

Why don't you just modify the NCDOT Odometer Disclosure Statement to fit your purposes and have it notarized?

Honestly I have to question the legitimacy of this "coverage" you are buying if the company REQUIRES a form that they aren't PROVIDING. Seems odd to me.

Thanks for the recommendation. I am editing that form for my purpose and plan on bringing to the dealer to sign it. Other idea I had was to get state inspection which should list my current mileage. Will have to make another call to the provider to see if that would meet their requirement.

I didn't provide enough info about the service in my original note. Simply put, it's a service to cover any problem with the car that is not covered by manufacture warranty (think AFLAC) that I bought when I purchased the car (new). After x years, if I didn't have any claim to use that service, they are going to refund my premium, minus a small admin fee. I am in the process of getting my refund, thus the need for that statement, even though I don't think it is relevant to the process. There's absolutely no dependent whatsoever on the car mileage in the contract. The service is provided by Fidelity.

Thanks for your suggestion. I haven't thought of that. Will check with them to see if this is acceptable to their requirement.

JohnBBB did you ever get your money back from Fidelity?

I'm in basically the same situation. I expected any dealer to give me this piece of paper, and was disappointed to find out this is only a thing they give out when you trade in the car.

Any advice you can offer?

They are asking for something that doesn't seem to exist. What was Fidelity's response when you told them the dealer wouldn't do it? Can you send them a picture of your odometer?
