I am having issues with AT&T cell phone signal strength (Apartment off Evans Rd in Cary). Frequent no-bars and dropped calls even if I step out to the parking lot.
Has any one here heard of a 'signal booster' that AT&T provides? This is a device that improves cell phone signal at home.
I guess I have to haggle with them to get this free!. I am not on contract, else I plan to switch carriers.
It's not just ATT. I have Sprint and do not get a good signal when I'm in that area either.
I know that Sprint has a device called Air Rave and people give it mixed reviews.
ATT probably has something similar.
ATT has what they call a micro-cell. They sent me one for free! We had ok service in our house but when I sat in the garage with the wife we would have no service.
With the Mcell we have 4 or 5 bars of service throughout the house. It works great and no complaints. it hooks up to your broadband and uses that. You have to have it near a window for setup but then can move it if needed.
After a month of no service in our apartment we broke down and got a microcell. It works great and we always have 5 bars. My only complaint about the microcell is the price!!
Oddly enough the guy who installed our AT&T U-Verse had 5 bars of cell service on his phone in our apartment!
Out of curiosity have any of you tried Verizon? I find they pretty much hit everywhere. That microcell sounds to me like a VOIP kinda job for your cell. In theory your calls using it should not be counted against your minutes.
I had a Microcell and it didn't work that great for me. Even 3 feet away from it I would show 5 bars of signal strength, yet be unable to make outgoing calls and would frequently drop calls. It was certainly better than having no MCell, but by no means did it solve all the problems I was having.
They finally built 2 towers near my house and now I no longer need it.
That's a link to eBay, searching for AT&T Microcell. They can be had around $75-$125 by bidding, and around $150 buy-it-now...
AT&T used to give them to customers in troubled areas, until they realized it was most of their customers, and then now charges $200 for them.
Make sure your purchased one is DEACTIVATED, otherwise you cant activate it on YOUR cell account. The person selling it to you is the one who deactivates it prior to shipping it to you.....
I have the Microcell here at my house and it works ok but will drop a call and also the initial call to someone won't go thru. You must hang up and then dial the number again. Its much better than what I had but AT&T needs to fix a whole lot of stuff! Oh yeah, I got my microcell for free. Just raise "holy hell" with them and see if they will bow down. lol
