I am looking for any first-hand experience with the N.C. Virtual Public School - any recommendations/pros/cons, etc. We have a 9th grader who will be relocating from a high school with year long classes to one in N.C. on a block schedule so we are hoping that at least a couple of the classes can be finished virtually so she doesn't lose as many credits with this transfer.

Any other advice from those that may have made a mid-year transfer with a high school student following a different type of schedule such as this would also be much appreciated! Thank you

Burk...are you moving to Wake County?

If so, the school itself should be able to put her into some online classes. You should not have to pay for those on your own, although it is good that you are willing to do so. Algebra 1 is held every day for a full year and I suppose there could be others.

My 9th grader had a bit of a disconnect between NY curriculum and NC curriculum, and the solution turned out to be an online course for her that she attends in the guidance office every other day for the rest of this semester.

I have to say, this required persistence on the part of her original algebra teacher...guidance was initially resistant to make special accommodations for her. The principal had to give approval, and I'm not sure what all transpired to make it happen. We also had some trouble with credits that did not transfer.

If you send me a direct message with her current schedule I may be able to give you more specific advice.
