Thanks for the kind words and the gentle criticism.

We've had an unexpected death in my immediate family that has resulted in delays in processing estimates (and honoring a lot of other commitments as well) while addressing our current backlog of previously contracted work.

All requests for estimates will be honored as soon as possible. Needless to say it has been a difficult holiday season.

I appreciate the CD family's patience.

J. Trent Hicks

Hey RDUBiker,

I just met with him and went through what needed to be done. I asked more questions than an IRS agent at an audit interview and he seem to know his stuff pretty well. He gave me a ball park figure of the cost but will make it official via an email next week. However, what he quoted me off the top of his head seem to be reasonable. Unlike another estimate that I got from another contractor (which was even more expensive), the owner of that business could not bother to even come by to look at the job and instead asked one of his guys in the field to look at the job and report back to him which I though lacked not only the personal touch, but showed some indifference to my job because it is not as big as his six figure ones ... later for him

Thanks RDUBiker ... I think I will be using him for the job

Great! I've spent years finding reliable and trustworthy contractors like Roland and once I find them I use them a lot before I recommend them to anyone else. With four houses at once (at one point in the past), I was always in need of something or other, so I have quite a large cadre of people to choose from, but I appreciate the seriousness of the "reputation" rating here on C-D and only recommend people I've both used before and would use again.

The meat of today's market is not in six figure jobs but in much smaller ones. Any successful handyman/contractor (Roland bridges the gap because he can do anything himself, yet has his license - I think - and knows what and when to sub something out, yet still oversees the work to his level of detail which is right up my alley) in today's economy must take work he finds and not snub noses at smaller jobs.

As an aside, I've heard great things about J. Trent Hicks and am sorry to hear about your loss, sir. That's certainly a very valid reason for not replying to people. Family always comes first.

We use Ground Electric for our crawlspace business' electrical needs. Call Cory Litterilla 961-6920. He and his brother are Master Electricians.

Depends on what you need. My buddy does electrical and HVAC on the side but big jobs can be hard to fit into his schedule.
