We are planning our move to Raleigh, from California this summer. We have heard (and read) only great things about Raleigh (and the whole research triangle area) about it being a great place to raise a family, with great activities for children, affordable housing, good people and a place where values still exist. This is the reason why we would like to move there!

For those people who relocated looking for similar reasons and place to raise your family, I am interested in knowing...Did you find what you were looking for?

I'd say we've found it for the most part. There's still some things we miss from back home but those are becoming less and less as transplants open businesses down here. I do think that the offerings for kids have improved greatly over the years. I remember when there wasn't much to do down here if you were middle school to high school aged. Now it seems like there's a lot more activities for those in that age range.

yes! come and visit and see what you think of the area!

It is pretty spread out, so I think you would need the better part of a week to get the feel for the whole area. I live in wake county and found all of those things you are looking for. Others have moved to orange and durham counties and also found those things. You don't mention weather...which you should also keep an eye on -- some folks are miserable here in winter or summer -- depending on which end of the country they come from and the type of climate they prefer. Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill does experience all four seasons, albeit an abbreviated winter compared to northern states.

I am completely biased but I think the RTP area is a lovely place to live and raise a family.

Yes, we've been happy with the move. The only complaint is the way youth sports is run because the area is so spread out....just not used to that. We moved here from Long Island but came from a very small, self-contained village. But we've been happy with the schools, the neighborhood, the neighbors and enjoyed not having to shovel the near-record snowfall LI got last year!

Definitely love it for the kids. There are so many activities. We honestly haven't scratched the surface with them.

We just moved from CA earlier this year. It's been great so far. I'm not sure what the other cities offer, but the Town of Cary does a lot of family programming... sports, art, music, dancing, etc... there are a lot of classes for every member of the household and it's all super affordable. There's definitely a sense of community here... something I never felt living in the "suburbs" of Los Angeles. I especially like the fact that in NC, our son can go to the best public schools because we're able to afford housing in the good school districts. Unlike LA, where we lived in an okay neighborhood but the nearby public schools were all crummy. Good luck!

We made the move in July and couldn't be happier. Our kids love their new schools, our neighborhood is full of young children and we've met new friends ourselves.

We moved here from the northeast two years ago and don't regret it at all. Our son, now 4, is growing up in a lovely neighborhood with great kids and families surrounding him. A few weeks ago, we went to the local firehouse to see Santa and have breakfast. My husband and I mentioned later how that was *exactly* what we wanted for our family: to have memories of a town where you could go and do these kinds of things and feel welcome. Just my two cents...
