Hi - I have just shy of 1/4 cord of good seasoned firewood that is chopped and fire ready and a metal log stand for outdoors. I want to donate it and I tried to find a number for Warmth for Wake, or a church/Scout program that would be able to pick it up and take it where most needed ... any ideas or contact numbers you have would be greatly appreciated! I live in the Preston Village area of Cary (near Davis/High House). thanks in advance!
Not sure where you can donate it, but when I had a ton of wood to get rid of, we posted it for free on craigslist with a specific mention for whoever wanted it must load and haul it away themselves. It literally was gone the next day.
You could donate it to me. I just ran out of wood yesterday
Seriously though, I wonder how many people out there would be using the wood for actual heating? Probably the Boy Scouts would be a safe bet since they could use it for camping trips. Here's their contact info: Contact Us
According to the newspaper the other day, there are many people in the triangle who can't afford gas or electric and rely totally on wood fires to keep them warm - it's just trying to find out where to take it to help them. I'm not desperate to get rid (craigslist would be the first place for sure if I was but since we have a surplus would like to do some good with it, since it just got so COLD!!!!!!!!!!! Can't imagine what it would be like to not have heating....
They will take it, but you have to take it to them. The facility is off New Hope Rd near the 264 intersection if memory serves. I had checked it out when scheduling stuff for my former church's Operation Inasmuch a few years ago.
If you can't find a charity that can come carry it off, sell it via Craig's List for a discount, then donate the cash. That will get it out of your yard, plus give the charity what they need the most.
Put up a "FREE FIREWOOD" sign in your front yard. It will be gone by day's end. Or call Triangle Trader on 680 WPTF. It's a call in flea market show, Sundays 12-3. Has been a steady show in Raleigh for 20 years or more, under different names. 860-WPTF or *680 from cell.
Many people use firewood for all or part of their heat. Lots of need.
I agree with Warmth for Wake. Those who need it the most aren't likely to have transportation to come get it from you.
