What a wonderful morning for the challenge! The race was filled with all kinds of people today. Young and old. I even saw one runner pushing a man in a wheelchair and they were moving fast!
I was a "casual runner" and only ate 4 doughnuts and completed the run in 44min 40secs. Next year I am eating them all! The winner of the the challenge ate all 12 and finished the race in a little over 28 minutes.
I loved the guy on the street just around the corner after the Krispy Kreme shop offering runners (who had just finished their doughnuts and started to run back) a 13th doughnut to make it a bakers dozen. Saw a few people take him up on it too!
I was born in Old Rex and I was there running. I only ate couple of doughnuts though. carried the rest back.
Great pics btw. Much better and different than typical running shots.
Thanks!

Thanks NRG! I was positioned at the finish line, I must've taken a picture of you!

I finished about the same time. Not sure about eating all the doughnuts though. Even three had me feeling a tinge in the stomach. Two years ago before i started eating healthy, eating 12 would have been fine, but i couldnt run . Then again I had just got back from Mexico at 1:00 am the night before.
I also got a laugh out of the guy and kid with extras.
The leaders were killing it. They passed me going the other way when I was just past the Capital blvd bridge. I doubt I could sprint that fast let alone run 5 miles and I've done a couple half marathons.

You and I must have been running in the same pack! We saw the eventual winner on his return trip to campus as well while we were still on our way to Krispy Kreme. I was on Peace Street just about to turn right onto Wilmington when we spotted the lead runner all alone heading towards us on Peace just in front of the College. Everybody was in shock to see how far ahead he was! He must have run sub-6 minute miles and still had time to eat 12 doughnuts to finish in 28 minutes. Amazing!

Cool. It was great seeing so many photographers out there. Your shots are great. Really captured the flavor of the day!
Next year I am signing up as a Challenger. After the race I realized 4 doughnuts was not nearly enough and I was still hungry - here I am after finishing the run rewarding myself with another one. I promised Francois I would give him the extras, but I ate the rest last night. Sorry Buddy!
This has clearly turned into the coolest annual event in the Triangle. I love that it's both serious (cause) and silly at the same time.
