I have had blue birds around all winter (love suet) and they seemed to love the house but didn't start a nest. A few days ago a Carolina chickadee started building one in the BB box. I really want the blue birds to use it but I'm not going to kick the CC out at this point. I have a second BB house a couple of hundred feet away so maybe the BB will take that one.

We haven't had any either and I'm so bummed. Had one about 3 weeks ago but none since. I've got my mealworms out and ready for them but no takers.

I have one box with blue birds with 1 egg so far and another box with Brown-headed Nuthatches that have been working non-stop all day. I wish I knew the secret to getting bb's to use your box. I keep suet up all year long but I think it's pot luck. Don't give up ..... I think once they use a box they will be back year after after year

Just having a nesting pair and providing a bluebird house with a raccoon-proof baffle is a good start. My bluebirds like suet as well, but really like sunflower hearts - as do all the other birds in my backyard. While expensive, sunflower hearts are cheaper than the mealworms which the bluebirds never did take an interest in.

My bluebird pair LOVES mealworms, and so do most of the other birds that frequent our feeders We have not tried to provide a nesting box because there is just not an ideal location in our yard. They show up several times a day to feed though. Yesterday I saw the male feeding the female! I've never seen that before. Wish I had my camera handy!

The one time I tried to feed birds meal worms, the squirrels ate them all! I didn't know they were omnivores.. live and learn!

Squirrels love them but so do grackles, mocking birds, I've even had robins at my feeder for them. That was a first!
