We live in North Raleigh and need braces for my 12 year old daughter. She has a typical need (18-22 months) minor corrections to teeth, no real "issues." At Cheek-Hill they quoted us $5,700 plus $300 set up. That seemed crazy high since my other daughter got hers for $3,000 and she had complex problems. And that was in Taxachusetts!

My questions are how much did you pay for your braces, who did you use, and would you recommend them?

Thanks for your help!

If corrections are minor, why even mess with her teeth.

My sons were minor and fixed themselves. We had been quoted over $3K and that was 15 years ago.

Orthodontia is highly overrated.

I have found crazy high differences in the rates for some dental procedures in the Triangle area.

If you don't get some current info here, I'd suggest getting quotes from many different orthodontists.

Orthodontia is wonderful.

We paid 1800 for braces, a head gear to fix a severe under bite and then retainer. We used Wilson Orthodontics in north Durham and we drove 45 minutes to get to him. He came very highly recommended and they were awesome. I'd use them again.

Vinson Orthodontics on Main Street Wake Forest. Our son had extremely crooked and crowded teeth. We went to Vinson because it was the only place we could find locally who offered the Damon System. Couldn't be happier. The office staff is exceptional. Very kid oriented office. It was about 3K after insurance. Amazing results in just a few short months. Total time in braces is expected to be 22 months.

Is there a dental school in the area? There's always a great savings to be had at them!

That's the amount our kids' braces were quoted at (before insurance).

I'd suggest going to several orthodontists for consults, because they are done at no charge. Then you can compare.

If it's minor and your daughter is still young, I would just wait it out. I had major issues with my teeth and had to get braces. My sister had minor issues and my orthodontist advised my parents to just wait and see once her mouth was finished growing. By high school the issues were no more and my parents saved themselves a couple thousand bucks.
