I think most of the places up there will put it on top of your car for you. I see 'em all the time driving down the interstate. The farms up there are very familiar with folks from the Triangle and Charlotte coming up to "cut your own". Typically they will put it in one of those nets.

This site might be a good resource for you: North Carolina has many choose-and-cut Christmas tree farms | .

Did you pick one out from a lot around here last year?

Yes, we didn't have a chance to go out to the mountains last season due to poor planning, so this year we are making the trek in 2 weeks. We have a truck, so putting it in the bed should be no problem, we just are concerned with keeping it hydrated, etc. over the 3-4 hour drive. Thanks!

I think just cut an inch or so off the trunk when you get home and put it in water right away, either outside in a bucket or inside if you're ready to put it up and it should be fine.
