I am planning a political party for January 2013 and am looking for a "nice" venue to reserve in the RDU area (Not set on any one area, just trying to find the perfect space). Tickets will be sold for approximately $40 each, will have a DJ. We would like a place that has AV equipment in space and would need a venue that will allow an outside caterer and / or bartender, but would be willing to use their in house bartender.

Thanks in advance for your assistance

How many people are you expecting! What time of day? How many hours?

Used to be the Marvel in Durham, but they went out of business a few months ago. Sorry.

Downtown Raleigh

Museum of History: North Carolina Museum of History Facilities Rental
They have a list of approved caterers.

Natural Sciences Museum is also available: Rent the Museum | North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
(but they have an exclusive caterer)

General Aviation Terminal at RDU is a really cool space but pricey and has exclusive caterer.

On a prior thread, someone suggested Bay 7 in the American Tobacco District in Durham - looks like it might fit your needs and is a great space. Consider searching for some old threads on wedding venues for other ideas:

Thanks for the info. I will check on pricing for Bay 7. It looks great! I will also do as you suggested and search some old threads.

I just remembered-- The Cotton Room at Golden Belt has hosted parties like you described. Specifically, The Art of Cool Project has had several parties with ticketed entry, bar, and DJ. Check them out as well. I think they're a closed venue in terms of catering, though.

You could also look into The Elks Club and The Shriners Club in Raleigh - both rent pretty cheap and have in house bartenders
