Hi
I am thinking sports medicine since he plays football, but we really don't know who to set up an appointment with. Does anyone have any good recommendations of a doctor in the Cary/Apex/Raleigh area?

Yeah I would say sports medicine for sure. I've only been to the folks at Duke but they were great.

Injury or Pain? Debilitating pain or nuisance pain?

I partially tore my MCL nearly 40 years ago and have had no treatment for the injury. The Orthopedic Surgeon who examined my knee told me the corrective surgery could result in more problems than what I was experiencing. Admittedly this advice was given to me almost 30 years ago after I had already lived with the injury for a decade. My wife got tired of hearing me complain of knee pain with weather changes and made the appointment for me. Now even the weather change pains have disappeared.

Do the right thing for your child, but the Doctors may tell you the right thing is nothing.

I messed up my knee skiing a few years ago and they had a custom soft brace made for me that I would wear on days that the pain was really bad. They stressed that I should only wear it when necessary otherwise full-time wear could cause the muscles in the knee to weaken and become worse. Now I never wear the brace since my knee apparently has reconfigured itself to handle the original injury from the physical therapy exercises they had me doing. Hopefully that's all your son will really need

I would recommend Dr Barker with Raleigh Ortho. They have an office in Cary as well. He is really good and is one of
the doctors with the Hurrancane's.

I can't tell you where to go but I can tell you where not to go. Wake Ortho is no good from my experience. Expensive, rush job.

I just got back from Dr. Benedict at the Bone and Joint Center on Executive Drive across from Duke Raleigh Hospital. Try him.
