Target has acquired land in Parkside Town Commons, a commercial and residential project planned for the intersection of O'Kelly Chapel Road and N.C. 55 in Cary.
The Minneapolis-based retailer paid $3 million for an 11-acre tract, according to Wake County property records.
The developer of Parkside Town Commons, Kite Realty, has been moving ahead with the project after years of planning. The project could include almost 1 million square feet of restaurants, retail and offices, and hundreds of residential and hotel units near an Interstate 540 exit.
In May, Kite Realty won an agreement with the railroad company CSX and the town of Cary that will allow reshuffling the roads and rails near the site. As part of the deal, the town would build a $17 million bridge on Carpenter Fire Station Road over CSX rails.
Kite Realty is also the developer behind the Holly Springs Towne Center project now under construction off the N.C. 55 Bypass. The first phase of the shopping center will total about 377,000 square feet and include Target, Marshalls, Michaels, Dick's Sporting Goods, Petco, Ulta Beauty, Pier 1 and SportClips, along with a mattress store, a nail salon and several more yet-unspecified stores.
A second phase will include a movie theater and more.
It is great news for West Cary that we start to get some decent infrastructure. With roughly 25,000 residents the is a population similar in size to Holly Springs or Wake Forest served by just one Harris Teeter grocery store. Shame HT is also going there as it would have been an ideal location for Publix if they are setting up business in the Triangle, as competition for HT would be good for us all. Lets hope work starts soon
Disappointing that Harris Teeter will be the grocery anchor. I'm surprised that they would put one in there with their Davis Drive and Cary Park locations so close.
I emailed those suckas to put something else there other than a Harris Teeter, but that didn't happen.
Can we merge this with the other Parkside/Alston threads?

Does anyone know when this project is expected to be complete?
