IKEA in Triangle? (Charlotte: rent, home, purchase)

IKEA doesn't open based on population growth. I used to live in Minnesota and everyone always found it bizarre that there wasn't one there given the number of potential loyal customers of Swedish descent. They did finally open one in 2004, but they weren't in any hurry given that they'd been in the U.S. market for 15+ years before that.
I've heard that they are more likely to open close to a distribution center (and the problem with MN was that it wasn't close to a distribution center). Since they opened up a distribution center in Savannah in 2007 that probably hugely increases the Triangle odds, but I imagine they'll see how the newly opened Charlotte store does first.
I do like Ikea just based on the variety they have to offer, but their stuff is in no way quality furniture, plus I think the "contemporary" style is on the way out. Most of their goods are made of crappy particle board, and will begin to look like crap soon after it's put together. Also, the fabric they use is very low rent and so is the cushioning. I know a guy who had a CD cabinet from Ikea, and it was supported by only two plastic legs, I guess the idea is to lean it against the wall. Well one of the thin plastic legs broke and hundreds of CD's came crashing to the floor, not exactly a quality product. I suppose if you plan to live somewhere for a year and then move and throw out all the furniture, then Ikea is the way to go, but if you want something that will last you're going to have to shell out for it.

Anyways, I just don't see the hype with IKEA, people have been known to camp out days before the grand opening. Traffic has gotten worse around the area where the Charlotte IKEA sits since it opened. All for furniture and wooden hangers, that can be found in any other store. Honestly, how bad does one need a bookshelf that they are going to set out tents and wait days for?
Not to mention, reading several consumer complaints about the poor quality products and terrible management some stores have don't exactly make me have any desire to go there.

If you don't like IKEA quality, you don't shop there. Just like I don't like Walmart quality, so I don't shop there. I do shop at Target though.
1. A new IKEA will create jobs in the area
2. Serve as a competitor in the area. Competition is always good.
3. People who really think IKEA's products are good will shop there.
It is all a matter of choice. I agree that some IKEA products are a little crap. But you get what you pay for. If it is crap, you probably payed too little for it.
