Hey guys, how many people would like to see a Ikea come to Raleigh? Has anyone heard of any plans for one to be built? I would like to see one over near north hills.

I think many people have followed up with IKEA on it and the response is always no plans at this time.

They know you'll drive 2.5 hours to Charlotte, so they won't bother putting an IKEA here.

It would be great. In the meantime I'll keep making the trip to Charlotte.

I'd enjoy having one closer. But, I kind of enjoy the excuse for a day trip to Charlotte every few months too.

Where in the world would they fit a building that size near North Hills? If they were to build an IKEA, it would be somewhere that they could buy up a large plot of land for cheap. Probably out around the new 540 segment of Apex.

But that's wishful thinking. I email IKEA about once a year to remind them we'd like one here and always get the same canned response back. A girl can dream lol.

We will eventually be large enough for an IKEA, just not there yet.

If I were them, I would probably consider the I-85/I-40 corridor, perhaps over by Mebane at the exit with the truck stop near Tanger that was supposed to get a major mall some years back. On the edge of the Triangle but able to pick up Greensboro, too -- just as their CLT location is more convenient for the southern Triad and WNC markets.

I don't know their official criteria, but I think we're large enough already when you consider the metro area. Bring them on! I would shop at IKEA a lot more if there was one closer.

Meatballs anyone?

No way would they build it there. That's much too close to the Charlotte IKEA. They'd be more likely to build it east of RTP to pick up Fayetteville, Wilmington, Salisbury, etc in addition to Triangle folks.
