I ate at this great place earlier this week that made me think Durham Meetup. It's called Mellow Mushroom, and is on the American Tobacco campus (why is it called a "campus"? It looked like an outdoor mall/restaurant area to me). I liked that the menu was affordable, yummy, AND healthy, there was plentiful well lit parking in a free garage next door, and the place was well lit and not too loud. All that said, it's a chain that's also in Raleigh so I imagine it's not exactly iconic Durham But it's the first downtown place I've had a sit down meal at.
Is there anywhere else in downtown Durham in the Brightleaf or American Tobacco areas that anyone might recommend for a large-ish group?
For those with an interest in a city data meetup, any preference in type of restaurant?
I'm all for a Durham meetup, that's for certain. Actually, my wife's friend has already organized a party for her workmates at the restarant located inside the American Tobacco district just inside from Mellow Mushroom. Unfortunately, she's still sleeping and I can't remember the name (but I think it's Tyler's Taproom and Restaurant). Man, I wish there were living spaces in that place. I love it there!
I think it is a great idea. I might bring my wife as well since she is starting to think I am addicted to this forum and I need to show her that there are some great people on this board and we aren't all a bunch of nut cases!
I think that would be fun! I have been to Tylers. They have a great beer selection and garlic fries. They even have fried pickles. They try to buy local ingredients.
Interesting... When I think of the Mellow Mushroom, "healthy," isn't exactly the first word that comes to mind.
I love Tyler's, though I've heard some negative comments about the Durham location. Whatever. Their garlic fries are AWESOME! I could possibly be convinced to go there...
