My husband is traveling to WF this weekend for an interview, and while he is there, will be looking at some areas with a real estate agent. A move there is looking very likely for us, so we want to get a feel for where to zone in when we come back to house hunt. The neighborhood that appears, online, would be the best fit for us is Heritage. When we view properties online, most of them seem to have WF addresses, but some of the houses that look especially appealing to us have Rolesville addresses. What, practically and financially, would it mean for us to buy a house w/ a Rolesville address vs one officially in WF? Is there an impact on taxes? Emergency services? Other city services? School zoning? Anything else?
Does anyone have any insights on this area in Heritage that is within the Rolesville sity limits?

My mom lives in what one would think would be Rolesville, but her post office address is WF.

It matters little about the post office address. Not sure of the taxes.

Schools should be more location than postal address.

By comparing the Heritage site plan and Wake County's iMAPS, it looks like almost all of it is in Wake Forest.

In the southeast corner of the map, the southern part of Evening Snow St is in Rolesville, and the neighborhood on the east side of Rogers Rd (which includes Corner Rock, Heritage Gates, Lawson Walk, etc) is in Rolesville.

Your taxes will be a little more expensive in Wake Forest. (Tax table) Which town you live in determines which police department responds, which fire department is primarily responsible for responding, who collects the trash, etc. (Water and sewer are provided by Raleigh, no matter which of those two municipalities you live in)

As Meh mentioned, the "city" part of the mailing address doesn't matter one bit in all of this. That is just determined by which post office happens to deliver the mail. So you could live in the Wake Forest town limits with a Rolesville mailing address or vice-versa. Because of the confusion over that issue, you may want to use the iMAPS link above and double-check any properties you're interested in, to make sure you know whose town limits it is in.

I hope that helps.

Default Heritage

I would also check the addresses you are interested in purchasing on the Wake County Public Schools website to see what schools come up as choices for that address. In the past, Rolesville students could attend Heritage schools as a year-round (calendar choice) option. For 2013-14, it doesn't show up on the selection list as Rolesville Middle School and Sanford Creek (elementary) are the year-round options for Rolesville.

I'm not sure if the Rolesville section of Heritage feeds to Heritage schools or to the others. Also, since Heritage schools are generally full/overcrowded, I'm not sure of the likelihood that a child coming in on a nonentry grade (not K, 6, 9) or mid-year would get in. Last year, my son was 35 on the waitlist for 5th grade, after also being waitlisted in 4th. Needless to say, we didn't get in and the middle school is no longer one of our options as he moves to 6th. I know some families living in the Wake Forest part of Heritage that didn't get in last year for children coming in on non-entry years.
