Seriously, do a quick search at hpw.com for your price range in Cary, NC or zip code 27609 for N. Raleigh. You will probably be in heaven with your results. Also remember though that pay will often reflect living expenses, so you might not make as much here but your dollar will go much farther.

I think because we are familiar to NYC, if you drop me off in the south bronx, I know how to get home, I know all of the subway lines in and around Manhattan, I think my paranoia comes from being in sticky situations at times and to move somewhere that you absolutely do not know about makes it worse. Hope I have spoken for my fellow NY'ers!

Hi metro.m, did I answer your question? I hope so. We are considered paranoid new yorkers for a reason.

You're going to have to try pretty hard to find "sticky situations" here like what you might encounter in South Bronx.

That is good to know...of course those sticky situations were late at night on the subway, and I haven't taken the subway late at night in 10 yrs... I guess it is the fear of the unknown and knowing the craziness of NY that make us all a little paranoid.

There are bad areas in the Triangle (SE Raleigh, East Durham, etc...) but the areas are generally quite contained and are not somewhere you'd go unless you were trying to. Living in Cary or N. Raleigh leaves you very isolated from these areas. Overall, crime in the Triangle is not bad at all.

To be honest get a job here first and the rest will fall into place. Raleigh is a breeze to live in. Close your eyes and forget about all of the chaos you've lived through in NYC, because it's almost the opposite living here.

Almost anywhere in Raleigh and the surrounding areas are a nice place to live. Southeast Raleigh is the moderate income side of town, and it's still worlds beyond the chaos, and crime NYC has. Trust me.

Like I've said Central Raleigh is actually the most exclusive parts of town. Five Points, Oakwood, Brooklyn, Mordecai neighborhoods, etc, are very charming, lively, and convenient to all parts of town.

Nice MDP_AZ, Living in Cary or N. Raleigh leaves you very isolated from these areas Sounds like the town I live in, in the burbs of Westchester county. I call it a "bubble" surrounded by low crime "buffers" (other towns). I love my low crime town, which is also why I am concerned about crime rates where I live, it is a far cry from my years in the Bronx and Yonkers.

Thanks Metro.M...I am closing my eyes right now...I am hoping my hubby takes the transfer, it sounds nice out in NC and it would be nice to have a decent sized house.
