So we have a very, very flat yard. When it rains we wind up with standing water on half of the back yard. Does anyone have a recommendation of either an easy fix or a company who can fix this? We've always lived on a hill until this house so it's a new issue to us.

You will want drainage not irrigation. Irrigation is for watering, drainage is to remove water.

Is discharge from your roof downspouts a major source? I connected downspouts via buried a 6" corrugated pipe to the front of the home.

Thanks, that's what I meant, drainage not irrigation. Though we do have a sprinkler system I need to get checked out so I guess both. The last owners apparently never used it so no telling what shape it's in.

Sounds like you need answers about drainage, not irrigation. Either regrade the yard by removing soil or adding soil or install enough sub-surface drain tile to allow the standing water to drain off. Bigger question is "where will the water go" ....into a neighbors yard? into the street gutter and then into a storm drain ?

I'm thinking it would have to go to the street gutter given that all of our neighbors' yards are flat as is the park behind our house. I mean perfectly flat, like a football field...

To help you decide where to run the drainage, search online for topographic maps. There are several and if you find one that has a close up of your neighborhood, it might help you find a lower spot that's also acceptable to the owner. IE: run it to a storm sewer ditch, and not someone else's back yard.
