Anywhere in the Triangle is best, of course, but I'm willing to travel a couple of hours in any direction to try some out.

There are several options online, but I'm hesitant to spend so much money on something I havan't slept on, and mattresses aren't returnable.

TIA

There may be. Since I'm new to the area I'm not sure. A friend told me about the place in Asheville. Did a google search bring up anything?

Yes, thank you! It's nearly 4 hours (door to door) from my home, so I'm hoping to find something a 'bit' closer. Savvy Rest in Charlottesville, VA is about the same distance, and their organic mattresses come highly recommened, too. I guess it would be a coin toss as to which one to drive to.

There's a place in Ohio where the Amish make eco-friendly mattresses and furniture that's a 3.5 hour flight. I have a ton of frequent flier miles, so I might take a trip to Amish country...

But then again, if I'm going to fly, I might as well go to NYC...up and back in the same day (ABC Home & Carpet has a big selection of eco-friendly 'everything'.)

It just really ticks me off that there's so little eco-friendly here. With all of the new homes going up, it's a same home owners don't have more options.

While I'm not a 'fanatic' about this stuff, I'm still quite concerned about the quality of materials being used in home materials and furnishings.

Did anyone see this from CNN?: Tests reveal high chemical levels in kids' bodies - CNN.com

I totally agree!

If I was an entrepreneur I would definitely open an eco-friendly shop in this area. It is screaming for one!

Smile We're bringing ours with us...

Green mattresses and mattress systems made from natural latex, organic cotton and wood

Not an inexpensive purchase, but we love love love our bed, and it will outlast "regular" mattresses so in the big picture it is a good value for us.

The craftsmanship is amazing (and it weighs a lot too, the moving company will love love love that I'm sure, heh).

Good luck with finding a good product for yourself!

What did you end up doing? I'm thinking of nabbing one in Amish country (Ohio) simply because we have relatives there.
