Hello all,
My name is Bryan (this is my first post) and am graduating from college in Virginia in December. I have a couple of questions regarding places to move after graduation. I am interviewing with a company that is located on the eastern side of Raleigh but am open for commuting to my job. I am looking for a place that is good for a 22-year old but is still a good area. I was in Raleigh today (Oct 15) and checked out apartments off of Creedmoor and Lead Mine (Camden Overlook) but when I got home and read reviews on the area, they said they were high crime areas. Will someone give me an insight into those areas and anywhere else that you would recommend. I am looking at putting a max of $750 / month for rent. I appreciate any help.

Bryan

Welcome, Bryan.

When I graduated college, I lived in Cameron Court apartments in downtown. Address is 804 West Morgan Street (although most of the buildings actually face Hillsborough Street). I stayed a good four years and loved it...never really had a crime problem as long as you're smart and don't leave doors unlocked or anything like that. They've added brighter lighting on the grounds to help even more.
Last I heard, 2 bedroom units were going for about $680-ish per month. That includes hot & cold water. It's a good spot for young folk--walking distance to most of downtown's restaurants, bars, nightclubs, etc...and has a nice wooded courtyard for walking a dog or sitting out on a warm day reading a book. Older buildings---cool 1930's style brick architecture, hardwood floors, 10 foot ceilings, etc...but updated with central air/heat and decently new appliances. Give them a try.

I can't imagine how anything close to Creedmoor or Lead Mind Roads would be a high crime district. My kids went to Lead Mine Elementary. I live near Creedmoor Road. Thats the heart of North Raleigh...pretty pricey area...so I'm wondering where you are getting these stats?

There are a ton of apt complexes on Six Forks Road, as well.

I believe if you call Drucker And Faulk (they manage a ton of apt. complexes) they'll give you information on apt., prices, etc. Its a free service they provide since you'll end up in one of their complexes. No obligation and I always found them to be helpful. No, I do not work in property management!

Bryan -

I currently live in an apartment complex just off the intersection of Ray Road and Lynn Road (Very close to Creedmore Road). There are tons of great apratment complexes that are along the perimeter of Lake Lynn in this area such as Sail Boat Bay, Govenor's Crossing ect... I suggest you look into one of the many apratment complexes on lake Lynn as they all seem very nice, safe, and have great ammenities. Thsi part of North Raleigh is quite nice and I love it hear. I am fianlly movign int oa house but could not afford to buy in the area so I am moving a little north of I-540. I think you will also find a wide range of price ranges available in the Lake Lynn area which is always a good thing. Good luck with your search.

Go Hokies!
