Is anyone else having issues with their mail delivery?

My mailman has been delivering mail between 7 PM to 9 PM, lately.

Usually, he delivers around 5 PM.

I realized it could be due to Christmas but 9 PM?

Last week, I was expecting a small package. Online, it said the package was "out for delivery". I got it 2 days later. That particular day, I go no mail. That is highly unusual for us.

Yesterday, we got no mail, at all. I don't remember the last time (other than last week) that we got no mail!

Did the Post Office lay off workers or is something else going on?

Vicki

We received a notice in the mail a few weeks ago saying that routes had been consolidated and that mail times might change. I didn't realize it would mean that the mail would come after I'd gone to bed!

USPS is extremely tight on hiring holiday help and has many overloaded carriers because of very poor scheduling.

Don't blame your carriers.

I live in North Raleigh too.

Update...Son checked mail at 11 PM...no mail.

Son checked computer at 11 AM...said his package was delivered.

Checked mailbox and lo and behold...there was yesterday's mail!

So...mail was delivered AFTER 11 PM last night!

Sure hope the PO is paying overtime!!!

I agree, Saturnfan, it isn't the carriers' fault. Our PO is poorly run!

Yep, big problems with our mail here. Our usual delivery time was between 6-7 at night which was already later than I liked. Now, I have no clue when the mail comes. We had a package recently lost by the USPS and luckily amazon.com just sent a replacement. I'm in North Raleigh as well. I don't blame the carriers, I feel bad for them. It still doesn't keep me from feeling frustrated about it, though.

Think of how much time and money would be saved if we could simply pick up our mail at our convenience at the nearest post office. I'm amazed that things work anywhere near as well as it currently does and think that the letter carriers should receive hazard pay. Every time my mail person has to walk up my driveway I feel awful, like their job isn't complicated enough with reduced staff and the threat of layoffs hanging over their heads.

I don't have a problem with them delivering after hours, I just feel bad that they have to. Oh, and I live in North Raleigh as well.

That means I have to take time every day to go to my post office, which would now include thousands more people to make the lines even longer. No thanks! That just sounds awful.

No, you'd have a post office box that you could walk up to, open and get your mail at your convenience.

That said, I feel for the current postal workers. And the current managers/administrators of the USPS. The latter can't make decisions that might help run the business more efficiently or more profitably because Congress gets in the way. The former are working to pay for the USPS obligations to ex-workers (retirees).

But let's not forget the additional issue of the postal union contracts that don't allow layoffs of ANY employee who has more than six years employment. When you consider that postal volume has decreased EVERY years since 2006, and 80% of the expenses of the USPS are labor, that's an agreement that will eventually blow up.

I have that now, and the box is at the end of my driveway.
