As I have no idea what you like, suggesting places like Big Ed's City Market (great southern food served by waitresses who call you "darlin'"), Lucky 32 (food with a southern twist, waitresses more subdued), LaFarm Bakery (French food, outrageous bread and pastries), Fullsteam Brewery (local beer, food trucks, and trivia night on Thursdays) might be just what you are looking for or miss by a mile.
It would help to know more specifics as to what you are looking for. Downtown on Glenwood South is where the nightlife is if that is what you are looking for. North Hills is another popular area. If you like Porsche vehicles, there is an exhibit at the North Carolina Art Museum. The Nutcracker will be performed until December 29th at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium.

Well I'm not into clubbing or anything like that. Is there a place where I can just park and walk around and hit a few pubs, maybe get something to eat?
Seaboard Station in downtown and on the R Line has a few places as well you might like. Seaboard Station Shops Tyler's Taproom came to mind of somewhere you might like.
Thanks ncb. I ended up doing almost exactly what you suggested. This was a recon trip and now I've made up my mind, I'm moving end of January!!
Thanks all for your help on this and other posts!
Glad you had a positive trip! I hope your move goes smoothly.
