I have not but my husband has several times on business. He likes the area and we are both sick of Wisconsin weather.
We were there a few months ago and loved it. We are moving from FL our winters wont be much different. I lived in UK for 5 years then came back to Florida, I miss the seasons. We are leaving behind the constant heat, bad schools, flat landscape, palm trees & alligators. I cant wait!
I would not move here unless one of the two of you had a job that could support the family. I would do that no matter where I moved to once kids are involved. I am not in your fields but I am not a big believer in the thought that out of state applicants are discarded. There are so many people who move here ever year with jobs lined up. I'm not saying it can't happen but it is not necessary to risk moving here without work. Best of luck to you and your family!

That is one of the reasons we are choosing North Carolina. We still like the seasons, especially the colors of the fall, but the drastic winters can be draining. Most of the area shut down with the -40 degree temperatures last week.

My husband agrees, which is why he is going to start looking now even though we are not planning on moving until the beginning of July. He says if he gets a job we can either move sooner or he can go down while I stay with the kids to finish school. I just hope he can find a job. The market has been harder in this area but has been improving.
I currently drive 50 miles one way to work in the Chicago area - traffic jams are a way of life!
I don't think I know anyone in the area with a 50 mile commute (it's just not typically necessary around here!) so in that regard, you'll be happier.
(Of course, as with anything, there are exceptions. I knew someone who briefly commuted from Winston-Salem to Cary, but it was a very unique situation.)

That would be wonderful - more time with my family. My car would also greatly appreciate it!
We moved down here with no jobs and two kids. This was back in 2005 and we moved from New Jersey. I look back and think - HOLY CRAP - were we crazy??? But I got a job almost immediately and DH had to wait 3 months but then he got a job at the PNC Arena (formerly the RBC Center) and he's been there every since.
My advice would be to come down here and get a PO box and put that address on your resume! Most employers wouldn't blink an eye at an out of state phone number because so many people move here and don't change their cell phones for a long while.
Anyway - good luck - it's a great place to live and it worked out for us to take that leap!!

Thank you so much for your advice. The p.o. box is a great idea! I will definitely look into that. I hope we are as lucky as you were. Have a great week!
Thank you for your advice. It is really a hard choice because it always seems like a catch 22. I have been doing a lot of research and hope to find a job in the Raleigh/Durham area but I will definitely start making more phone calls etc. It has always seemed like a dream to live there, but maybe I am making it out to be more than reality dictates.
Yes. You are making more out of it than reality dictates.
It's nice here. My home state. But, it's hardly Shangri-la.
I agree with the others. Try to get a decent job for one of you first.
Best of luck!
