Hello,

My buddy and I play baseball at William Peace University (right next to state) and are really looking for some ponds to fish this spring. We are not very familiar with the area since we are not from Raleigh, and we would really like to know where some ponds are. (legal or not) Golf course ponds, neighborhood ponds , and maybe a few small lakes. We obviously don't have a boat being college students, so we would like to stay away from lakes if we can.

Thank you

Lake Wheeler is 15 minutes south of downtown and allows bank fishing. I wouldn't call Umstead Park fishing ideal since to my knowledge you have to do some hiking to get to the ponds. There is one accessible from Reedy Creek.

Of course, all options require a current/valid NC fishing license. As to other private ponds, be they golf course or neighborhood, I'm pretty sure they'd be happier to arrest you for trespassing than I would to promote the activity.

Lake Johnson is of course a popular spot. You can rent a boat there or fish from the boardwalk.

Check with the state baseball team... They are avid bass fisherman.

Bond Lake is another popular choice. They have boat rentals as well.
