I have just moved to Raleigh this year and am looking at purchasing a home in Garner or Clayton. I have looked at the Hunter's Mark subdivision versus the Riverwood Athletic Club subdivision. Any information on either of these would be greatly appreciated.

Question country heart

Hi I too am looking to move from new jersey and want to move to either Garner or Clayton. I need to have a easy commute and opportunties for a job. I would love a friendly neighborhood, I really don't care about the schools as my children are grown. Can anyone sugest where we should look? I found the taxes are quite high in Durham and was told that you need a gun to move around in Raleigh! I can't take crime as I lived too close to NYC and got robbed once in the area and since then I can't take big crowds and people. I would like to work anywhere that would take me as I haven't worked for awhile. It's me my husband and my rather large Wolfhound. Yes, he's the dog on the commercial for Iams not a wolf! Can anyone help me decide on a safe community with a rather large yard, and a nice neighborhood. I don't like cookie cutter but I don't want to put a new roof on a house so I need something fairly new. Thanks

Had to say this. Whoever told you it was necessary to carry a gun to move around Raleigh is either a paranoid extremist or naive. There are very few areas that would even equate with a dangerous area of NYC. The good part is you probably would never be in that area unless you were up to no good yourself. This aint Mayberry but the impression you have, its definitely not.

Clayton and Garner are good choices for affordable homes with larger yards then most other areas of Raleigh. The rule pretty much is the father from Raleigh you go ,especially south and east the better land values can be found.

Crime in Raleigh? I would call that a major stretch! The city is so laid back who has the gumption to commit crime? Sure their are a couple of patches, but nothing like NY. Whoever told you this is way off base.

Have lived in Garner for 20 years and love it. It was picked as the All American City just last year. The beauty of Garner is it's proximity to downtown Raleigh. You get the amenities of a small town (very friendly people, larger home, more land, etc) and yet the big stuff too like concerts, plays, big shows, ect in Raleigh. You can get to Raleigh in 10 minutes from Garner. Can't recommend it enough.

I think someone was pulling your leg. Need to carry a gun to avoid crime in Raleigh? Oh...that is the chuckle of the day!
