Tragic for the families, a minor disappointment for Cary. When your average is so low, it takes only a single incident to ruin it. Both were non-random crimes - brother shooting brother and family friend shooting a friend - so it doesn't really reflect on the law and order situation in Cary. Sad, nonetheless, and hopefully not reflective of the recent population explosion in this area.
It looks like they are both isolated incidents, and do not reflect any overall crime patterns or spikes within the town itself, which is a good thing. However, both incidents are tragic none the less.
Don't associate with thugs and you don't have to worry about getting murdered, end of story. The only other shot you have of getting murdered is a random one and well you can't avoid random.
I don't either. It does make me wonder if we have more of this type of thing to look forward to, though. You cannot expand as fast as Cary has expanded and discard the notion that crime might get higher.

Uhhhhh...I think it's clear here that both cases were not that simple. Plus you don't have much choice if the "thug" is a close friend or family member. Not a cool thing to say.

It doesn't mean Cary is any less safe or that the crime rate will go up, per se. Wikipedia says Cary's population is around 135k. Now, in a town of 10K, they might deal with this once a decade. In a town of 135k, once a year or so. It doesn't make you or the citizens of Cary any less safe. Horrific crimes happen everywhere, even in the smallest of towns.
More people brings with it more of anything that is associated at all with people. It means more cars, more car accidents, more churches and restaurants, more crime, and more homicides.
Cary's demography and geography will ensure that it is a very safe place to live for quite a while.
