After approximately 10 gall bladder attacks (extremely painful) in the last 6 months I think it's finally time to get it removed. Does anyone have any recommendations for surgeons at Duke? I have searched the forum and all the recommendations are for Wake county doctors. As I live near Duke I would prefer someone closer to home.

Thanks!

You may still have pain if you don't treat the underlying causes. I know there are some foods I can't eat without suffering gall bladder pain. So I don't eat them.

Here is some information that might help even if you decide on surgery. It may help before and after:
Gallbladder Diet specifically for gallstones and other gallbladder disease, What foods to avoid for gallbladder attack, gallbladder pain and after gallbladder surgery ....

Good luck!

Good luck, I am glad I got mine out. No more heartburn or 12 hour attack sessions, if it's interfering with life you definitely need to see a doc about it.

I had the scope surgery and I was back up and running in 2 weeks. I also had an infected gall bladder (pre operation) and some minor post op complications that slowed down my recovery.

I know you are looking for recommendations closer to home, but I would highly recommend Dr. Tyner of Cary Surgical Associates. I know he works out of Wake Med, not sure if he works out of other hospitals as well?

I had suffered with gallbladder related issues for 4 years before deciding I had enough.

I will say my surgery was a piece of cake! I went to Wake outpatient off Tryon Rd for a 6 a.m. check in time. Everyone was REALLY supportive and super friendly because I was a complete nervous wreck.

They took me back for the laproscopic procedure at 8:30 a.m. and I was able to go home by 11:30 a.m. that day (I told them I wanted OUT as soon as possible).

I had the procedure done on a Friday morning and I was feeling well enough to vacuum and cook by Sunday. My husband was back to work on Monday and I was fine to go about my normal daily routine Monday. I did take pain meds the day of the surgery and before bed and once during the night for the first 3 nights so that I wasn't too sore to move the next morning and that was all I really needed.

Good luck! I have not regretted the surgery at all!

Dr. Christopher Watters - general surgeon. Completely awesome. Took my wife's appendix out, then a year later when mine began giving me trouble, I requested him. Fantastic - and not just at surgery (which should be your primary concern), his bedside manner and customer service was unparalleled so far in our medical experience.

I just had my gallbladder out at the beginning of february and oh my word I feel SO MUCH BETTER!!! Anyhow, I went to wake surgical associates: Wake Surgical Specialists :: Raleigh, NC and I saw Dr. Peter Ng (pronouced Nong) and he was so so so great. His father started the practice and he has been with them for a number of years. He does about 3 gallbladder surgeries a week (and had done well over 1500 in his career).

I had mine done at Duke Raleigh, my surgery was scheduled for 830, and I ended up getting in at noon. By 1245 he was in the waiting room talking to my husband, and I was on the way home at 345. They gave me medication to calm me down before the surgery and I really don't remember much until I woke up.

I was sore for a couple of days after surgery, but I only took the pain medication once, after that I took advil. I did nothing for about 5 days. I would walk around the house just to get things moving, but I tended to just hang in bed watching movies.

After a week, I was feeling much better and after 10 days I was back to normal. I feel so much better than I did before the surgery. I have not returned to my previous diet by choice, as Dr. Ng told me I could ease back into the fatty food category if I wanted.

Anyhow, he is very very good, my incisions (laprascopic) are great. He has excellent bedside manner and definitely put me at ease and I was terrified! This was my first surgery.

Good luck

Leigh

Having a gall bladder attack as I type this and have decided enough is enough. I

I'm thinking the da Vinci robotic minimal invasive surgery would be the ticket.

Anyone have any recommendations on who does gall bladder surgery with this machine in Cary, Durham, or Raleigh?

Thanks a million.

My husband had unexpected gall bladder surgery a couple of years ago and we were very happy with Dr. S. Biswas at Wake-Med.

In Cary Dr. Duberman - no need for Da Vinci, I had mine out the Monday of Thanksgiving week, was cooking dinner on Thursday. Had the operation at Rex Surgical Center in Cary, was in at 6, out of surgery after 30 minutes, home before 10am and feeling great.

At Big Duke, Dr. John Scarborough. Did my roommate's GB and a small surgery for me, very personable and very human...something sometimes missing in surgeons.

FWIW I'm a nurse who worked at Duke as well as in Cary, and still recommend these two...
