I am glad you posted this. In NY it is a common union practice but I was quite sure I was seeing it here at some large hospitals. Now I feel more certain.
Nortel (BNR) used to do this back in the '80s. I heard they stopped after someone had a little too much and then drove home. They were worried about liability.
