I am looking at some homes in Raleigh where the base school is Wilburn Year Round Elementary. My daughter will be in 3rd grade in the fall. The few reviews I saw on Great Schools were negative but were from about 3 years ago. The EOGs from 2011-2012 looked pretty good, but in 2012-2013 seemed to drop significantly (if I am reading the numbers correctly). Does anyone know anything about the school, the teachers, the administration? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!
Son't quote me on this, but I THINK when I was interviewing 2 years ago, they were trying to totally restructure the school due to poor performance. they had many teacher vacancies.
Low EOGs could be the Common core curriculum kicking in-higher standards?
I am pretty sure a few years back they made Wilburn a "renaissance school" and made massive changes to staff there due to low performance over long periods of time. I have been hearing good things about it in recent years. I am also fairly sure that most schools scores went down in 12/13 due to common core.
Based on the most recent NC Teacher Working Conditions Survey (click here for results) it's not a preferred destination at the moment. Overall the survey results show some improvements in key areas but also underscore that it hasn't really turned things around just yet.
