Ya, there's no liability for riders here, only the drivers, and Uber is covering theirs. So nothing to worry about on your end...if the driver will take you there, you're good to go.
The taxi situation at RDU is pretty bad. It takes forever to get a ride and the drivers are not professional and most of the time decline your ride if you can't pay in cash. I totally welcome UBER as an additional option for RDU (never used lyft).
All I have to say is I took Uber for the first time in DC in May and it was AWESOME! My sister pulled up her app and requested a car (2 blocks from the white house). A driver responded and we got to see his location on her phone for the 3 minutes it took for him to get to us. He then took all four of us from there to Nationals ballpark (about 4+ miles away) and it cost us a grand total of $13. A taxi cab would have easily been twice that amount.
The driver had a beautifully detailed brand new car and was friendly and curious. I was amazed honestly.

I agree that Uber and Lyft are a good addition to the transport system because I believe in competition. But the competition needs to be fair. If the taxi drivers have to have a license to pick up and deliver to an airport, then Uber and Lyft needs to follow the same rules.
I've NEVER had a problem with the RDU taxi service. Pick up and delivery have been on time, minimal wait time at airport, professional, polite and never a demand for cash. And we live in Brier Creek, so it's a $15 cab fare (or less) with a minimal tip - exactly what a cab driver doesn't want. I hope you reported the drivers.
Just seems like a thinly veiled attempt to generate revenue by RDU.
