Does anyone have any experience with the Granville County Schools? The homes in this area are beautiful. I'm interested in any positive or negative feedback from anyone with first hand experience. Thanks

I worked in Granville County until very recently...many of my friend's have kids in the school system.
It's not horrid...but well...notice that I live in Wake County. They are opening a new high school this year...South Granville High is SEVERELY over-crowded.
I think good students can get a good education there...but there are social problems...probably a bigger gang problem them most areas of Wake, some racial issues and they aren't as welcoming to newcomers as Wake. (That is changing some as more folks are drawn to the county because of lower housing prices.)

Somehow we stubled upon a home that was in Youngsville...Granville Schools and we were quite suprised at the condition of the schools for many different reasons. We don't care how nice the houses are, we would never send our kids there, but we are curious as to where people send their kids to school in this area.

I have had a number of clients say the same thing, the homes don't match the schools. Since wake forest has experienced such a boom in the past 10 years, the schools have increased in this part of wake county. Granville county has not yet experienced that boom per se. Yes, there are new housing developments popping up (but that has been in the past year), and the schools have not had time to catch up. I have heard wonderful things about wilton elementary in granville county, but I don't have friends with kids in other schools in granville county.
Wilton Elementary was not the problem, we were pleased with that. It was the Middle Schools and High Schools. We also found a house with a Wake Forest address, but unfortunately it was Granville County Schools.

I know! I have clients email me regarding these great homes with a wake forest address in granville county. There is this pocket of land that is just that, close to wake forest but still in granville county. I know it can be frustrating, believe me. I have to agree, I have not heard good things about the middle and high, but as I said that may change based on population increase in granville county. The problem is, do you want to take a chance on that?
That is the reason we turned down Granville County, though we don't even have kids at home (anymore). We are in the part of Youngsville (southern) that is in the Bunn School District, which I hear is good. I've been told that many people in the Granville school district send their middle and high school aged kids to private schools.
Do you want privates in wake forest, or private schools in north raleigh? Basically, how long of a commute do you want, and does it matter if they have a religious affliation or not
Private in Wake or North Raleigh, under 10 -15 minute commute, mildly religious is okay.
