That's off Western Blvd near the KMart and Carmike movie theater (is it still $1.50 movies????). I know a lot of college students live there if that matters.

This was crime-ridden when we lived next to it almost 20 years ago.

Noisy from NCSU students to boot.

Terrible ratings on Apartment Ratings :: The leading source of apartment reviews by renters for renters..

A solid NO.

Only disgruntled people post ratings. (And I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of the positive/it's-heaven /glowing ratings come as anonymous ratings by the management).

They are, however, very useful for highlighting potential problem areas that you should evaluate yourself.

And the area hasn't changed at ALL in 20 years? I don't know much about this area...but I certainly wouldn't take a 20 year old experience as being worth much.

I checked apartmentratings. Doesn't seem to have improved at all.

I would use apartmentratings.com as a tool but not as an overall final deciding factor. It is true that mainly disgruntled people write complaints there, but I can tell you first-hand that often management will pad their ratings with positive reviews AND bribe residents with gift-cards to write positive reviews.

My experience and my information with the area in question is that it is high crime.

Years ago, when I had bought a house in Raleigh, I went to the RPD and requested a transcript for all crime in that immediate area, covering the last 3-5 years. It was a small fee and they mailed it to me within days. Again though, that was years ago, so I am not sure how that request is handled now.

There's a reason it's so cheap.

Why just high-rise apts? There aren't very many high-rise apt buildings around here. You're severely limiting your choices. Especially if your budget is low enough that you're checking out Westgrove.

If you're NOT a college kid, I would avoid any apartments that are heavily rented by college students. That's just me. College students vs. my lifestyle - totally different.
