My house is about 6yrs old and the Granite counter top had a 16 to 17inch crack now. This is in front of the kitchen sink where it is only 3 inches wide.

Any recommendations on how to fix or companies that would fix this?

So the crack is running lengthwise in front of the sink?

Is the sink undermount or other?

Well, honestly, one might suggest bagging and selling it for extra income. Not currently the street value of meth, but hey, any bit helps, right? :-)

Just teasing. Wish I had a true recommendation. Wish you good luck in finding real advice, however. Sometimes my smart aleck sense just seizes control. LOL.

You can't "fix" the crack but it can be sealed with epoxy and made less visible. The narrow place in front of the sink is the most vulnerable spot. I would start by calling the granite contractors nearest you for a recommendation. I suspect they will say that anyone would have to look at it before they can tell you whether it is fixable.

Smile Thanks

Thanks for responses.

Yes, it is lengthwise crack. Not sure what undermount means but there is space under the sink.

For some reason I didn't get notification when you all responded. Sorry for late acknowledgement.

It can't be fixed. It can be replaced. And if someone tell you different, "RUN FOREST RUN"!

Depends on what you mean by " fix".....

If you simply want to seal the crack in order to prevent further cracking/separation, that certainly can be done. The granite installers use a brand of epoxy called "AKEMI". It is or can be colored to match your stone. In fact, if you have any joints in your countertop, they were more than likely sealed/bonded with AKEMI. You could also fill the crack with a UV cured resin or even a clear epoxy from Lowes or HD. Look in the paint section near the other household adhesives. A 30 minute epoxy is your best bet. A pro will use the AKEMI.

The only fix you can do is to have the crack filled with epoxy.

An undermount sink is installed under the counter. It is not "dropped in" from above with the ledge resting on the granite. The undermount sink may be putting pressure on your granite. Maybe put support under the sink???
