I seem to have noticed more traffic in the last 6 to 8 months mainly on 540, Wake Forest, and North Raleigh. Our neighbor is telling me it takes 40 min to get her daughter to middle school only 1 mile down the road! She has noticed having to leave earlier and earlier. Traffic doesn't usually bother me, but it is really noticible now. Is the infrastructure not keeping up with the population?

40 minutes to drive one mile every day is a bit hard to believe. If it is true, I'd have the kid walk to school.
I have noticed it getting steadily worse around Morrisville and my commute on the Durham Freeway to Duke. At least in Morrisville, they have probably built a few thousand houses in the past few years so it definitely has increased the traffic there.
I've noticed that both NC 55 (between 540 in HSpgs and Rt. 1) and Rt. 1 North have both seen an increase in volume in the past few months. I've never known Rt. 1 to back up as much as it has recently. It used to be an easy drive past Ten-Ten toward Cary Parkway, but it's been crawling a lot recently with no obvious accidents causing the backup.

She has to be including wait time in carpool - a problem she is contributing to. She should hoof it unless there is some valid reason not to. I am sure traffic is increasing but clogging up the carpool line is not relevant to that discussion.
On any of the "spokes" of Raleigh (Six Forks, Falls of the Neuse, Lead Mine [especially], Creedmoor, etc), it's gotten decidedly busier, not even counting going into the Park in the mirnings (and returning in the afternoons.
Of course traffic has gotten worse with 6-digit increases in population in just the past few years and little new in the way of public transportation of new road construction, plus new stoplights being added that slow you down. I would say my commute increases by about 2-3 minutes a year on average, although I don't work the same place I used to so I'll have to recalibrate. But, going anywhere after work is much more tedious than it once was, not all that long ago.
[for those who are poised and ready to say "But it's nothing compared to where I come frommmmm...", that is not relevant. The question is whether traffic has gotten worse HERE over what it used to be. ]

But they keep coming, and coming, and coming, and coming...
yes. funny you should mention it. Just yesterday leaving Wake forest cars backed up to the Ale House trying to get on Capital going into Raleigh. I thought there was a wreck, no wreck just cars backed up. Worst I have seen as the kiddies go back to school. Going down capital into Raleigh was awful.
