You can think this is a pattern or a trend but it's more likely well within the range of normal for a place with Cary's population. The shooting thing is a random, one-time incident and clearly not perpetrated by people who appeared to "not belong" in Cary. I actually thought I recognized one of the kids arrested as a friend of my oldest son (turns out it wasn't, but he looked the part).

What, logic? Next you'll tell me NOT to put the razor wire around my front yard?!?

The two people who were arrested are from North Raleigh, and I'm sure nothing will be made of that. But I'll bet you a (good) pizza that if they had been from Durham, people would be all up in arms.

What worries me is that we have a ton of kids and I think a lot of folks are blowing these incidents off as you hicks have not seen this before it's nothing but to us we are losing the community we bulit.
Coming from NYC I bet this is a joke but for us this place means something other than cheap houses and taxes.

Actually, you can't say this is a pattern or a trend. The opposite is true. The pattern/Trend is that crime is going down in Cary. Keep in mind, that if you have 150 crimes among 100,000 people, and 200 Crimes among 200,000 people, that the crime rate is lower with the latter, and you are less likely to be a victim.
Crime Rate in Cary for the last 10 years Data is available, per 100,000 people.

Thanks for sharing. My concern about any crime stats is the quality of the data - i.e. they are lumping together all crimes. I think tracking or discussing certain types of crimes would be more telling. i know they do it, every dept does. It seems that we hear more about car break ins and strong arm robberies than I recall from the past. I have mentioned before that drugs are big in many HS's. And not the old marijuana the parents of today's kids think of when they hear of drugs in HS. When these kids need money for drugs they are breaking into cars and houses. I wouldn't be surprised if these crimes have increased.
Also, it's all in how the dept reports their crime.......
