Hi All,

I got nailed for a ticket in a school zone at 11am in Cary, (who has school hour speed restrictions in the middle of the day in a 4 lane road ANYWAYS) to avoid points on my license I asked for PFC. In order to qualify I need to perform 20 hours of community service. I was looking for suggestions on where to do these hours. I work FT so it would have to be a weekend thing. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Dorcas. and the high school zones are pretty much active all day long as students come and go at all hours during the day with varying schedules.

Thanks for the information.

I am still a bit shocked. When I was kid you were spoken for from 7-3 and were on school grounds, and the driving limits would reflect as much. It seems here that is not the case and the school zone is expanded greatly. I think a 4 lane road with no school in sight is more of a municipal funds scam but those are the breaks. I am certainly more vigilant now and there are quite a few spots that are suspect and is ripe for the picking if a cop is looking to make the quote for a given time period.

In fact, some attorney ought to challenge many of these citations because of being imprecise regarding day and time.

No vehicle code requires drivers to have a clock or watch
No code requires drivers to know what are school days given year round and holidays

Some signs are intelligent and flash when the restriction applies. Most do not.

Would be interesting if a legal action could require the flashing indicators and invalidate all previous convictions.

Any attorneys looking for an interesting case?

Also the city of Raleigh Parks and Rec dept often needs volunteers to keep score at games, do registration, set and tear of some events, and for community clean up days. Like Walnut Creek clean up.

High schoolers in the upper levels are allowed to leave campus for lunch during the day so you'll find mid day school zones in effect. Cary is pretty diligent about monitoring the zones and handing out tickets. I see it constantly.
