I kept my Atlanta T-Mobile # for almost 2 years when I moved back to NC. It would roam back and forth from Suncom to AT&T. I always had service when everyone else's phone wouldn't work. Not to mention I got so many more minutes than with any other service. I finally switched to AT&T when I got my Blackberry, but if T-Mobile comes here I will definitely switch back.

What's the state of T-Mobile these days? Is it still roaming or did they finally get their own network? (I heard somebody thing about taking over Suncom)

Just went to the T-Mobile site and searched for plans in various Raleigh zip codes. Looks like there is no service here yet. This is the message that I received...
T-Mobile does not currently provide service in the 27604 area. However, we are continuously expanding service, so please check back again.

I'm reviving this thread, because I have a friend who was looking at T-Mobile's prepaid service for her daughter. Apparently their website lists stores opening in the area in Fall 2008. Does anyone know if there is service here already?

I think T-Mobile is putting out mixed messages. I too saw the website listing all these new store locations opening up in my local area. At the same time, when you do a search you get the no service in this area. I just called and talked to a csr and she said that t-mobile is not in this area and has no plans of moving in this area.

Also, I had T-mobile when I moved from NJ in 2005. I was roaming on Suncom's towers down here. After my contract was up, I had no phone. Some time went by I wanted to get another plan. I called T-mobile and went through all the motions of setting up a new line of service letting them do the credit checks and taking my debit card number, the whole nine. When I got to my address, that's when they told me that I couldn't get any service because they don't have any towers down here. I asked them about my time down here already on the plan and they said that if I continued to stay in this area using Suncom's towers, they would suspend my contract or something like that. They didn't give me any timeline for it though.

It seems to me that they still allow people to stay roaming, but if you were to try to get a new line of service, they won't allow you to have it.

Any update to T-Mobile coverage in Cary/Triangle?
Considering their service now. Their coverage map shows general coverage, however the towers appear too spread-out to provide continuous coverage (spotty).

T-mobile works fine in cary. I live close to Harrison Avenue and it works at home. I work in RTP and there also my phone works fine.
