She's been getting all A's with an occasional B. I attribute this to the conducive learning environment and the excellent teaching staff, plus she's a pretty smart kid to begin with : )
2-3 hours of home work per night!!! and 6-8 hours of school (including commute time)! This is bad!when they will play and be active! I don't know why the kids get so much of homework nowadays. My 5th grader has at least 1 hr of homework! Too bad! On top of that HS, have the school start early at about 7-7.30 am! They sleep only 5-6 hours! What can we do about this when they need at least 8-9 hours of sleep.

My daughter is in high school and is going to bed at 8pm.
She had so much homework that she couldnt get it all done. I'm talking from the time she came home until bedtime-and she was up until after 10. This was only work for two of her classes!

Your high schooler is going to bed at 8pm!? Wow. What time does she have to get up? My kids are up until around 10pm and they're not in high school yet. We get up about 7am, school starts at 7:50am.

The poster you quoted is talking about high school, not 5th grade. Most high schoolers don't do a whole lot of "playing".

Raliegh Charter is a competitive school....they don't get the results they do by letting the kids slack. You have to be motivated to get in in the first place. Oh....and They start at 9 am....not 7.

Really? A high schooler going to bed at 8?

Simple. Extract them from that school. That amount of homework is just busy work. I'd question its effectiveness.

To clarify, RCHS starts school at 9am and ends at 2:40 so 2-3 hours of homework is more of an extension of the school day.

Do you even know anyone that goes to Raleigh Charter? It's one of the only charter schools I would recommend for the right student and they don't pass out busy work.
