Hi. I don't live in NC, but will be moving there soon. We want to get married near Raleigh next year.

Does April or May have better weather (also can break down into early april, late april, early may, late may). Which month typically gets less rainfall?

Thanks.

Toss up on the rain, I'd say. It rains any time in NC. The most rain is actually in the summer due to afternoon thunderstorms. It always rains in April the weekend of the Shakori Grassroots Music Festival. It's a curse. Held on an old Indian burial ground or something. That's April 16th-19th this year. May is by far my favorite month in the Triangle weather wise and I always try to make it back if possible around then. It's warm, but the humidity hasn't hit yet. Early April can be spotty, with days of cold. As others have said, rain can happen at any time but the vibrant anticipation of late Spring is unsurpassed in that area.

You may want to research the pine pollen issues in the spring here. There is a few week period here when it is really bad. Everything gets coated in a layer of the mess. I think there have been a few threads posted on CD regarding the issue.

Yeah, I'd avoid early April. There will be pine pollen EVERYWHERE.

Agree on late April/early May but I developed some gnarly allergies living here - please be equipped with Zyrtec for you and your guests!

Late April/early to mid May. As you get into late May you risk heat...normally nothing intense, but warmer than many will prefer in wedding attire.

There are a lot of climate sites with annual rainfall, but here is City-Data's own page on Raleigh--near the bottom, it has annual precip. Looks like mid-April is (surprisingly) the driest time, despite the rhyme "April Showers bring May flowers". Check NOAA or weather.com for other such sites.

May 18 my birthday! Always splendid weather. And for traveling most of the country is tranquil that time of year save the random afternoon thunderstorm.
