Hi all!

My wife and I will be relocating to the Raleigh area in the next few months, due to a job transfer. I will be working in downtown Raleigh. I have already had two cowrkers transfer to the area. One bought a home in Cary and the other in Holly Springs. They are each advising me to look in those towns or Fuquay-Varina. I'm used to living in areas that are friendly to the bohemian/eclectic/artsie lifestyle, although I would not actually describe myself that way. We are looking to spend around $230,000 to $250,000 for a home. We enjoy spending time outdoors, and are hoping to find an area that has walking/hiking/biking trails. I am hoping to have no more than a 30-35 minute commute (I currently commute 1 hour in the morning, 1 1/2 to 2 hrs in the afternoon).

Also, we are vegeterians. Do you know of any vegeterian or vegeterian friendly restaurants?

Thanks in advance for your input!!!!

We recently moved here from New York and have looked in 5 towns and about 60 housed. We liked Holly Springs very much. Up and coming. Also Apex is starting to get a little artsy. We ended up in Wake Forest however, because we found a townhouse that we loved. Good Luck.

Chapel Hill and Carrboro are good towns for that type of lifestyle, although the commute to Raleigh will take more than 30 minutes during rush hour.

In Raleigh:
You might find that Boylan Heights offers some opportunity for you.
Or Mordecai.

A little more effort to get to serious hiking, but some nice urban hikes are available.
And outdoor activities are easy to find in a small city like Raleigh.

If you make it up to Chapel Hill, Sage is a great vegetarian restaurant (near the intersection of I-40 and 86.) Also, there's a very active Triangle Vegetarian Society in the area, that offers classes, meets at vegetarian-friendly restaurants, and the like.
