I follow several news outlets and organizations on Facebook. This month I missed two really cool events that I would have gone to if the info hadn't hit my news feed after the event had already taken place. This is happening because of Facebook's algorithm that decides what I want to see. Does anyone have a great way to stay informed? A local blog? Twitter and particular people to follow? Any other thoughts?

Indy has a page that you can search on:
http://www.indyweek.com/indyweek/Eve...ection=1221535
You can adjust what you're looking for, and in what timeframe. It's been decent for me.

But really, I think places like this are the best. I used to like it when we had the monthly "Triangle Happenings" thread, because it included all kinds of stuff; big, small, even the obscure. I always checked when I was at a loss for things to do.

(So I guess it's my veiled attempt to goad people back into the happenings thread...)

I use WRAL's Out and About page to keep me updated about local events:

What types of events are you interested in? There is probably a facebook group or meetup for it.
Yelp.com
INDY
WRAL
Facebook (you might need to join lots of Groups)
Meetup
News and Observer
Those are the ones I can think of now.

The events page on Yelp.com is great. Even if you don't have an account you can view them. I like to log in and then click "I'm interested" in such and such an event so that I get a reminder before the day of. As a parent, I also like Carolina Parents' event page that I have bookmarked.

Another great email site is Find Parks, Trails, Playgrounds and More at ParkGeek.com. get on their email list and they send it every couple of weeks. It's been great for finding things not in the usual places also.
