We take our dogs into Duke Forest and there are several good spots where they are able to swim.

Personally, there are very few lakes in this area that I would consider clean enough to let my older dog swim. And remember leash laws are enforced.

There are, however, several facilities that have pools specifically for dogs.

This thread should help.

Doggie day cares such as Green Beagle Lodge in Chapel Hill offer pools for swimming.

Numerous spots along New Hope Creek in Duke Forest (one spot to walk in is from Erwin Rd) and the Eno (good spot is head North from Cole Mill). Both of these spots don't get a lot of traffic.

Not sure if it fits the bill but I see dogs swimming in Lake Johnson and Lake Raleigh.
In Johnson its mostly near the dam area and not near the boat-house (for whatever reason).
