I've heard that Uber/Lyft drivers are technically not allowed at RDU. Has anyone ever used Uber to get to/from the airport? I mean.....how would anyone know if you're in a Uber car or not?
1. By tracking the Uber car on the same app you use to locate drivers.
2. Same car making 3-4 pickups/drop offs a day
3. Rider sitting in back seat.
4. Asking the rider if they were in an Uber car.
5. Driver hanging out the Sheets with their app turned on
6. Driver / passenger not knowing each other on pickups.
So the best thing to do when the Uber driver picks you up at RDU is to wrap your arms around them and tell them how much you missed them!

I have, a couple of weeks ago to RDU. What was normally ~$42 cab fare ended up being ~$19 from Apex.
Did not get the impression that the driver was apprehensive about being at the airport. I did not hug him before I left either.
Always make sure you sit in the passenger seat when going to/from the airport in Uber (though I always ride passenger anyway). It's a shame how much regulations are trying to punish them when thanks to them we finally have a reliable and affordable method of getting to and from RDU.

Personally, I doubt RDU is putting that much effort into keeping tabs on Uber.
A small number of Uber drivers where qualified for RDU permits last fall. I'd suspect they are a fairly small percentage of Uber drivers dropping folks at the airport.
Ok thanks! I would love to use Uber to get to the airport but on the other hand, I understand the hassle it can be for the drivers if they were to get a ticket so I don't want to inconvenience them in that way even if I could get away with it.
I use them frequently when I go the airport. I always first in the front seat and chat them up (out of habit). The drivers are more than happy to get my business and it has helped me travel more often for I save about $30 on cab fare to the airport.
Yep. My brother a Uber driver, has two citations from RDU that Uber refuses to handle. Their threats are very real.
