Strange particles are falling from the ceiling in two different rooms in my house. I have no idea if they're related.

In our sunroom, which has a light wood bead-board ceiling, we get whitish, dandruff-like particles in a certain spot. I had two different pest control people check it out last year, and both went away baffled. One was a termite specialist and said he saw no evidence of termites, carpenter ants or carpenter bees.

In our living room, which has a dark wood ceiling, we get small, dark brown, roundish pellets. I've actually been working at a desk and had them fall on my papers. But I can't see exactly where they're coming from or, of course, what made them. I can't remember if this had started last year when the pest guys visited.

There's no obvious damage to the wood in either room. There's a flat roof above the sunroom that we can walk on, and there's no damage there, either.

Does anyone have an idea what this could be? Is my house crumbling around me? Help!

The flaking sounds like poorly applied paint that is now unable to stick to the coating it was painted over. Hire a good painter to repaint properly after sanding off the old paint.
