Does anyone know if they have a new cow? We were there a few weeks ago and, sadly, Max had passed away. Was thinking of going back this weekend and I know my daughter would love to see a new cow, if they have it.

TIA.

I was there with my son on Monday, and no new cow (as of that point).

The vet school does tours and has an annual open house. I don't know if they still do the part with the cows that have the screw caps on them.

I don't think they have a new cow, but they do have a new skunk. Plenty of other animals in the farmyard area, too.

They have some cows with openings through their sides into their stomachs so I assume that's what what they were talking about. They are used so they can look in on their digestion.

oh god. That sounds terrible for the cows. Hopefully it's in the cows' best interests?

Well, it's better than being eaten as someone's hamburger or steak, so in that sense it's in their best interest. I think it's really in the interest of science education, specifically veterinary science.

It's for research. Would you rather have a surgically- performed permanent hole in your side, or be hamburger?

Kids find this amazing!

Be prepared...It looks gross (to me)!

The cows don't even notice it. I'm sure when it was "installed", it was done with them sedated! After all, this is the NCSU Vet School!
